No headway in Cong-AAP alliance talks
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi had been holding talks for a pre-election alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress in Haryana.
The discussion stalled over how many seats the AAP would run for. According to a PTI report, the Congress is offering five seats, while the AAP is demanding ten.
Sushil Gupta, the head of the AAP’s state unit, had earlier in the day threatened to make public the names of all 90 candidates should the agreement not be finalized by the evening.
Leading the negotiations on the party’s behalf was AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who stated, “We will make a decision well before (September) 12, the deadline for nomination filing. We will withdraw if a win-win scenario cannot be achieved. There are ongoing discussions that are going well. I’m hoping it will have a happy ending.”
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh made the following statement on Monday: “We are fully prepared and have finished the process of selecting candidates for all seats. Sandeep Pathak has already given a statement on this issue. Sushil Gupta has also clarified the stand. They will declare the list and hold the elections as soon as they have authorization from the national president, Arvind Kejriwal, or the party. The AAP is a nationwide party with a robust organization in Haryana.
On October 5, Haryana’s 90-member legislative assembly will be chosen through voting. On October 8, there will be a vote count.
