Bengal Bandh Live Updates: Trinamool Congress workers protested on Wednesday against the police crackdown on peaceful protests during “Nabanna Abhijan,” in response to the BJP’s 12-hour “Bengal Bandh” call.
“We do not support this bandh,” said Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, in response to the recent bandh. Today is a day we have set aside for the RG Kar physician. We demand justice, but the BJP has called for a bandh today. She accused the BJP of staging a bandh to damage Bengal’s reputation and obstruct the probe into the rape-murder case at the RG Kar hospital. She went on to criticize the party’s actions.
In the meantime, the TMC expressed disapproval in response to the BJP’s demand for a 12-hour “Bengal Bandh” in protest of alleged police brutality during Tuesday’s “Nabanna Abhijan.” Amid ongoing protests on Wednesday, three BJP leaders were taken into custody by the Kolkata police.
While former state BJP president Rahul Sinha and former MP Locket Chatterjee were detained at the Shyambazar five-point crossing, Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya was taken into custody in Salt Lake. In Kolkata, shops, colleges, and schools continued to run even though there were fewer cars on the road. Protests briefly interrupted train services in Hooghly and caused traffic issues in Nandigram and Alipurdar.
