Days after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

The prime minister spoke with Zelenskyy over the phone a few days after they first met in the midst of the fierce conflict in Ukraine. Modi claimed that India is not “neutral” because it consistently stands for peace during his meeting with the president of Ukraine.
“India is not a neutral country. We have chosen sides from the outset. And the side of peace is what we have chosen. The prime minister declared, “We have come from the land of Buddha, where there is no place for war.
He continued, “It is of the utmost importance to us to assure you and the entire global community that India is committed to respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity (of states).”
Modi met Putin in Moscow last month and reiterated India’s position on the conflict in Ukraine. With his statement that “no solution can be found on the battlefield,” he had pushed the Russian president to go back to the diplomatic and conversational route.
Russia-Ukraine conflict rages on
Now in its second year, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine shows no signs of abating anytime soon. According to the AP, Russia launched missile and drone strikes throughout Ukraine on Monday, killing two people and setting fires outside the nation’s capital, Kyiv.
Oleksandr Vilkul, the head of the military administration in Kryvyi Rihstruck, an industrial and mining city in southern Ukraine, reported that two people had died in an attack on a residential building.
Five air alerts were issued during the night in the Kyiv region, which had suffered with blackouts following Monday’s onslaught. The regional administration claimed that while all of Russia’s drones and missiles were shot down by air defenses, falling debris ignited forest fires.
