On Wednesday, August 21, Oprah Winfrey made fun of JD Vance’s comment about “childless cat ladies” in her speech at the Democratic National Convention. When Winfrey made an unexpected appearance at the Chicago venue, the audience cheered loudly.
During her convention address, Winfrey acknowledged “childless cat ladies.” She remarked, “We are not that different from our neighbors.” We don’t inquire about the homeowner’s race or religion when their home is on fire. We don’t care how they voted or who their partner is.
“And we try to get that cat out too if the place happens to belong to a childless cat lady,” she continued.
What was JD Vance’s remark?
Vance claimed that the nation was ruled by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too” in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson in 2021. After the video was released again and Donald Trump declared that Vance would be his running mate, he was widely criticized.
Later, Vance defended his statement, saying to media personality Megyn Kelly, “It was obviously meant to be sarcastic. The irony is getting so much attention from people, rather than the actual content of what I said.
“Having children, becoming a father, becoming a mother, I really do think it changes your perspective in a pretty profound way,” he continued, clarifying that was all he intended to say.
At the DNC, Winfrey complimented several of her predecessors for delivering stirring speeches on abortion. “Now, we have all witnessed amazing people go on stage and share their most personal suffering over the past couple of nights,” she remarked. “They related to us their experiences of almost dying because the state refused to allow them to have the abortion that their doctor had said was necessary for their health.”
