Authorities in western Germany reported that after a portion of a hotel collapsed, rescuers were attempting to free those who were trapped.
Rescue crews were attempting to free stranded individuals on Wednesday after reports of a hotel collapse in western Germany left two people dead and numerous others injured.
Around 11:00 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Tuesday, a floor in the hotel in Kroev, a town about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Frankfurt, collapsed for unclear reasons, according to a statement from the police.
According to police spokesman Joerg Teusch, the accident claimed the lives of a man and a woman on Wednesday.
Five of the 14 individuals inside at the time were able to escape.
On Wednesday morning, two women, a child, and one man were saved by emergency services.
“We were able to make contact with the seven people buried and four of them were rescued with minor injuries, so it’s a miracle,” Teusch stated.
He said that three people were still trapped beneath the debris and were “probably seriously injured”.
According to police, the rescue effort was challenging “because the building could only be entered… with the utmost caution.”
There were about 250 search and rescue personnel at the scene, and thirty-one residents of the neighborhood were evacuated.
A Dutch family of three was reportedly one of the victims of the incident, according to Dutch media.
The father was still trapped, but the mother and child had been rescued alive, according to the Dutch national news agency ANP.
According to reports, the family was from the small Dutch fishing town of Urk.
