Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, also criticized the Center over the rail incident while expressing her condolences to the families of the deceased.
“Another terrible train mishap! The tragic results of today’s early morning Howrah-Mumbai mail derails in the Chakradharpur division of Jharkhand are numerous fatalities and a large number of injuries. Sincerely, may I ask: is this governance? How much longer will we put up with this constant parade of fatalities and injuries on train tracks, this almost weekly series of nightmares? Will the Government of India’s callousness never end?
This month has seen a number of reported train derailments. On July 18, a number of the Dibrugarh Express’s bogies derailed in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in at least four fatalities and approximately twenty injuries. A few days later, the Delhi-Lucknow rail line was disrupted when a goods train headed from Lucknow to Delhi derailed close to the Amroha railway station. Nevertheless, there were no reported fatalities or injuries.
